The D-day landing on 6 June 1944 was a pivotal historic event. But what if that landing had failed? What if the Allied Forces were pushed back into the English Channel? When would Europe have been freed from Nazi Occupation? In fact the question can be raised, would it have been? Would Hitler been able to to retain power. Would the Russians have been able to take eastern Europe and possibly ultimately Western Europe? Our landing in Italy was still stalled in northern Italy in April 1945.

As with any book of alternate history, it has it's ups and downs. The best thing going for this book is the one thing I've never thought of. What would the Allies do if the D-day landings had failed? Mr. Brandt takes on this idea. While I'm not sure of Brandt's ideas he does take a few things into account that historians have had trouble with. Could the Allied Bombings have been more effective? Would Ike had survived if the landings had failed? Interesting questions along with a host of others that are explored here.This book is ok in my opinion. Mr. Brandt took me for a ride on a timeline of the possible. I hope he has another in the works.

Actually quite plausible, a good read
Really makes you think.
I love alternative history fiction, but this book falls short of the mark. Weak writing, boring from start to about 1/3 of the way through when I finally had to give up on this turkey.
Great premise. Tougher to believe it could have happened like it's told in the book, but it was entertaining and kept me interested throughout.
I am an alternate history devotee, and I found this book to be a very good account of what might have happened on D-Day and during the months following.
I found the book interesting,it threw a different slant on what could have happened if D day had not worked. The author needs to improve his research when writing military books as he got the Royal air force ranks completely wrong also in 1 battle he has a German pilot hit with 3 50 caliber bullets and returning to flying within 4 weeks, if you are hit with those caliber bullets you are dead.
The action moves along nicely but is not presented in very much or 'you are there' type detail. A number of technical issues, but nothing that's a major show-stopper. Editing could be better - please Mr. Brandt 'apostrophe s' is NEVER plural. More than one Nazi is 'Nazis', not 'Nazi's'. More than one B-17 is 'B-17s', not 'B-17's'. The act of withdrawing is 'withdrawal', not 'withdraw' - that one occurred often enough to become annoying.
That said, it's not a bad read, flowed reasonably well and reasonably smoothly, no continuity issues.
